UAE Golden Visa after a job ends: family and time abroad
A UAE Golden Visa is self-sponsored, so leaving a job should not cancel the residence permit. Health insurance, a spouse or child, parents, and time abroad each sit on a different official page.
A UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residence permit that is not tied to one employer. When the job ends, the permit should not end with it. The federal Golden Visa page lists the privilege of not needing a sponsor. Health cover, parents, and time abroad are separate questions.
The residence permit can outlast the contract. Health cover, a parent file, and the next work permit are still separate papers.
Leaving the job does not cancel the permit
ICP describes Golden Residency as long-term residency without the need for a sponsor, renewed automatically. The cited pages do not state job loss as its own rule. The structure covers investor, real estate, entrepreneur, specialized talent, and similar categories. An employment residence visa is cancelled when the job ends.
The card is not a work permit. MOHRE's Golden Visa holder permit runs two years, with no bank guarantee, no insurance, and no electronic quota. "No insurance" is the permit file, not health cover. The same lines also require no valid residence visa and a valid golden visa, which is not fully clear, because a Golden Visa is a residence visa. Ask MOHRE or a PRO.
A dependent can add a two-year labour card and keep the family residence. Work permits require a residence permit for relatives, no active work permit yet. MOHRE waives the company quota. You do not convert to an employment visa. A freelance file is separate: freelance visa life admin in the UAE.
Health insurance is not in the package
No. For most categories, a UAE Golden Visa does not include health insurance. ICP Golden Residency asks for a passport copy and health insurance only for Humanitarian Pioneers and Frontline Heroes, not for investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talent, or outstanding students.
With no employer or sponsor paying, the holder generally buys a private policy. Cover remains a residency requirement, and each dependent needs a valid policy. Keep the card in the health insurance card folder.
Spouse and children
Yes. A holder can sponsor a spouse and children without employer sponsorship, across the UAE, including Dubai. Each person gets a permit linked to the holder, filed through ICP or GDRFA, with proof of relationship and health insurance.
A Golden Visa held as a parent's dependent is still your own residence visa. Federal family rules let a resident sponsor a spouse at AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 a month plus employer-provided accommodation, and a medical fitness test if the spouse is over 18. In practice a dependent with no salary can fail it. The AED 4,000 floor is not on the page that only says holders may sponsor a spouse and children.
Turning 18 does not end a child's residency. An unmarried son can stay sponsored until 25, an unmarried daughter has no upper age limit, and a child with special needs can stay at any age. From 18, a medical fitness test is required, as for any adult dependent. Past 25, an unmarried son generally needs his own student, employment, or Golden Visa category. See the ICP residency permit service.
Parents are not an automatic extra
Not on the Golden Visa itself. The same ICP service lists family members of a foreign resident, Golden Residence, and family of a UAE or GCC national separately. Extended first-degree sponsorship is stated for Green Residence, not for Golden Residence.
GDRFA's investor note is the holder's own 10-year permit, plus support for one's family. It does not list parents the way spouse and children are listed for other residents. In practice a Dubai parent file uses the ordinary family route: a minimum salary of AED 10,000, suitable housing, and a deposit for each parent.
Dubai Land Department names parents on the property route: husband or wife, children, and parents. The Parents track states a 10-year fee of AED 5,774.50. Documents are the sponsor's ID and passport, a certified dependency certificate, health insurance, a certified birth certificate, and an IBAN. AED 10,000 is not restated there. The purchase is covered in buying property in the UAE as an expat.
Time outside the country, and the later grace period
You may stay outside the UAE for more than the usual six months and keep the residence visa valid. The overview gives that to the whole Golden Visa category, including real estate investors at the AED 2 million threshold. That line is not on the DLD property page. Confirm with ICP that the visa is still active before a long trip.
Absence is not the grace period. After expiry or cancellation, ICP gives holders and family sponsored through them 180 days, same as Green and Blue. Other rows are 90 days for skilled workers and property owners, 60 via a guarantor, and 30 for other categories. The 90-day property row is not this visa. Family on the Golden Visa keep those 180 days if an old work visa ends.
