Accessibility
How VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Dark Interface, and Reduce Motion work in the product today — and what we do not claim on the App Store.
App Store categories
Supported means the behaviour is in the app now. Partial means it works in places, not everywhere. Not yet means we do not claim it on the store.
VoiceOver
Buttons, tabs, and key actions carry VoiceOver and TalkBack labels across feed, messages, listings, meet, settings, and widgets. The house press component requires a name. Residual icon-only chrome is still being labelled.
Where: Turn on VoiceOver (iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver) or TalkBack on Android, then open Expat Pocket.
Voice Control
Where a control has a spoken name, iOS Voice Control can target it. Map gestures, some sheets, and unlabeled icons have not had a dedicated Voice Control audit.

Larger Text
The app does not override Dynamic Type. Settings → Appearance states this in the product: text size comes from the system setting, not from an in-app slider.
Where: iPhone: Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size, or Accessibility → Display & Text Size.
Dark Interface
Appearance can follow the system, or lock to light or dark. Dark uses a raised card surface with light ink — not inverted colours.
Where: Expat Pocket → Settings → Appearance.
Differentiate Without Color Alone
Toasts, errors, and confirmations use a glyph and a sentence, not colour alone. Maps, charts, and some decorative chrome still lean on colour more than we would like.
Where: Visible on save, error, and undo bars throughout the app.
Sufficient Contrast
Body copy uses high-contrast ink tokens on paper (light) and on the dark card surface. Glass chrome and photographs are not the reading surface.
Where: Every primary screen. Decorative overlays are not the text layer.
Reduced Motion
The app reads the iOS / Android reduce-motion flag. Transitions collapse to simpler cuts — toasts appear and dismiss without travel. This website also respects prefers-reduced-motion.
Where: iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion.
Captions
Reels, stories, and live rooms do not offer closed captions. We will not tick Captions on the App Store until that ships.
Where: Not available in the product today.
On your device
iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver. Android: Settings → Accessibility → TalkBack. Then open Expat Pocket.
Use the system text size. Expat Pocket follows Dynamic Type; there is no in-app font slider.
Expat Pocket → Settings → Appearance → System, Light, or Dark.
iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion. The app reads this system flag.
If vibration is a problem: Expat Pocket → Settings → Appearance → Haptic feedback.
Roadmap
What this page does not claim yet is public product work. When it ships, the App Store labels can catch up.
In delivery. Primary surfaces are labelled; residual icon-only controls are being closed.
Scheduled. Caption tracks in the player and live-room delivery are not yet implemented.
Scheduled. Named buttons are in place; maps, sheets, and unlabeled icons remain.
Scheduled. Toast feedback meets the bar; maps and charts do not.
Scheduled. The system setting is honoured; Appearance does not yet expose the control.
Languages
English, Türkçe, Русский, العربية. The interface language is the one you pick in Settings. Arabic layout is right-to-left. VoiceOver speaks in the language the system is using.

Honesty
Captions on in-app video are not a product feature yet.
Voice Control has not had a dedicated audit of every map gesture and sheet.
Some older icon-only chrome still needs spoken names.
This website is light-only. Dark Interface lives in the app.
This page is not a WCAG certificate.

Email support@expatpocket.app with the subject Accessibility. Include the screen, the feature (VoiceOver, Larger Text, …), and your device. A person reads this.
